Boat Dip Recipe

Boat Dip is the easiest dip EVER and absolutely delicious. It’s just a few ingredients and comes together in minutes!

WHY WE LOVE THIS RECIPE

This boat dip takes about 4 minutes to prepare, so when we say it’s easy…we mean it! 😉 Add it to your football tailgate, movie night, or as the name suggests….when you’re out on your boat. Not only is this dip delicious, it’s also very versatile! You can add a spicy cheese, jalapeños, more green chilies, etc. We like it as it is written, but feel free to make it your own! Ingredients

  • 16 ounce container of Sour Cream
  • 10 ounce can of Fire Roasted tomatoes with green chiles (drained, but save juice)
  • 1 ounce packet of Ranch Dressing Mix
  • 1 ounce packet of taco seasoning (use low-sodium)
  • 2 cups Shredded Colby-Jack cheese
  • Potato Chips or Tortillia chips

Instructions

  • Mix all ingredients (except the chips) together in a bowl and chill for 30 minutes to an hour. Serve with chips

Notes

Since the sour cream is already cold, you don’t have to chill the dip; you can serve it immediately. We like to let it chill so the flavors can meld together a bit, but it’s not necessary.
I like to taste the dip and see if it needs a bit of the tomato juice. I added a bit back in because I feel like it really does add flavor and a kick to this dip. You can discard or add it back in, your choice!

One question, a review asked about draining the tomatoes saying it might help loosen the cream cheese, but I don’t see that listed. this sounds so good but I don’t want to mess it up.

    1. Hi Charlene, I added notes to the recipe so hopefully that’s helpful! I drained the tomatoes the first time I made it but then added most of the juice back in because I think it adds to the flavor. You can do it either way, you won’t mess up the dip. It’s pretty foolproof. 😉

  2. Y’all have some of the best dip recipes! So many of them are unique, and also easy to throw together, which makes them winners in my book! (Your Olive Nut spread is one of my favorites.) I have a question on this one: Do you drain the can of fire roasted tomatoes and green chiles? I’m thinking the liquid in the can might help loosen up the cream cheese, but figured I’d ask! Thanks in advance for your advice on this one!

    1. Hi Susan! Thank you so much, we’re thrilled you enjoy our recipes! I don’t drain the Roasted Tomatoes, but you certainly can. I like the added flavor with the juice but if you want to drain, go for it. You can keep the juice and add it in if you feel it needs it. Either way, it will be delicious. 🙂

Made this dip for the 4th and everyone really liked it. Only negative is that it really makes a lot of dip, so you may want to cut the recipe if you are not feeding 8 or more people. Otherwise, it was delicious and easy!
