We You’ll Love This Simple Dessert
This simple apple praline poke cake is definitely a family favorite. We actually served this cake last year at our annual Doves and Dinner event at Evening Shade and it was a huge hit! We love a homemade cake as much as the next person, but there is always room for a quick cake mix recipe. This dessert comes together very quickly and is absolutely delicious. The deep apple flavor along with the homemade praline topping…amazing!
SWAPS
You can certainly top this cake with homemade whipped cream. If you don’t like nuts, then simply leave them out. If you don’t like pecans, you can make candied walnuts to top on the cake. You can certainly use any flavor of cake mix you like, we just prefer the Spice Cake Mix or Butter Pecan.
A Few More Simple Cakes:

Apple Praline Poke Cake
Ingredients
- 1 15.25 ounce box Spice Cake Mix or Butter Pecan Cake Mix
- 1 21-ounce can of apple pie filling
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
- ½ teaspoon of cinnamon
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup of milk
- 1 14-ounce can of sweetened condensed milk
Topping Ingredients
- 1 8-ounce container of Cool Whip
- 1 ½ cups of chopped pecans
- ½ cup of brown sugar
- 4 tablespoons of butter melted
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350ºF. Grease a 9×13-inch pan. Set aside. In a large bowl, combine cake mix, apple pie filling (I dice them up before just to make them smaller, you don’t have to), vanilla, cinnamon, eggs, and milk. Mix with an electric mixer until combined.
- Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 22-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. When the cake is done, take the end of a wooden spoon and poke holes all through it. Pour the condensed milk over the cake. Allow the cake to cool completely.
Topping Directions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Mix the pecans, brown sugar, and melted butter together. Place parchment paper on a baking sheet and spread the praline mixture over it. Cook for 6 minutes and then place in the freezer for 1-2 hours or until completely cooled.
- Spread Cool Whip over the entire cake. Break the pralines up with a fork and then sprinkle them over the cake. Chill for at least 4 hours or overnight.
