Ingredients

  • 1 15.25 ounce box Spice Cake Mix or Butter Pecan Cake Mix
  • 1 21-ounce can of apple pie filling
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • ½ teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup of milk
  • 1 14-ounce can of sweetened condensed milk

Topping Ingredients

  • 1 8-ounce container of Cool Whip
  • 1 ½ cups of chopped pecans
  • ½ cup of brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons of butter melted

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350ºF. Grease a 9×13-inch pan. Set aside. In a large bowl, combine cake mix, apple pie filling (I dice them up before just to make them smaller, you don’t have to), vanilla, cinnamon, eggs, and milk. Mix with an electric mixer until combined.
  • Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 22-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. When the cake is done, take the end of a wooden spoon and poke holes all through it. Pour the condensed milk over the cake. Allow the cake to cool completely.

Topping Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Mix the pecans, brown sugar, and melted butter together. Place parchment paper on a baking sheet and spread the praline mixture over it. Cook for 6 minutes and then place in the freezer for 1-2 hours or until completely cooled.
  • Spread Cool Whip over the entire cake. Break the pralines up with a fork and then sprinkle them over the cake. Chill for at least 4 hours or overnight.

Notes

Keep any leftovers refrigerated. This cake is better with time, so you can make it 1-2 days in advance.
We've used both Butter Pecan and Spice Cake mixes and they are equally fabulous!
