Hawaiian Sloppy Joes

Hawaiian sloppy Joes are a twist on the classic sloppy Joe! We added a few different spices and a pineapple ring; the flavor is fantastic. Plus, this recipe is so simple and makes the perfect dinner.

WHY WE LOVE THIS RECIPE

We’ve always loved a good sloppy joe sandwich. They are so simple to prepare and can be enjoyed in so many different ways. You can put the meat on a hamburger bun, or we also like it over a baked potato. They come together quickly and reheat great. This Hawaiian version doesn’t disappoint! The pineapple and ginger certainly add a different flavor, and we love it.

  • You can easily make these sloppy joes with ground turkey or chicken. You can also use diced pineapple as well.
  • Want to make this an appetizer? Use slider buns instead of hamburger buns!
  • You can easily use Hawaiian buns to give these even MORE flavor.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound of ground beef or ground turkey
  • ½ cup of chopped Vidalia onion
  • 1 teaspoon of minced garlic
  • ½ teaspoon of ginger
  • ½ cup of ketchup
  • 1 8-ounce can of tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon of liquid smoke
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 20-ounce can of pineapple slices (keep the juice)
  • 6 hamburger buns

Instructions
 

  • Add chopped onion, minced garlic, and ground beef to a skillet and cook on medium heat until brown. Drain off extra grease.
  • Add ginger, ketchup, tomato sauce, brown sugar, liquid smoke, soy sauce, and ⅓ cup of pineapple juice. Turn down the heat and let simmer for about 20 minutes.
  • Serve on a toasted bun with a pineapple ring on top. Makes 6 sloppy joes.

HOW TO STORE

This sloppy joe meat should be kept in an airtight container and will keep in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
