Cheese Dreams Recipe

Leigh Walkup
Cheese dreams are the best appetizer! Pick up any old church cookbook and you'll find a cheese dream recipe. They are made with white bread, butter, shard cheddar cheese and cream. So simple yet so addictive.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups finely grated sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 2 Tbsp. heavy cream
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. table salt
  • 1/2 tsp. dry mustard
  • Hot sauce to taste
  • 1 16-oz. pkg. firm white sandwich bread slices

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Mix cheese and butter at medium speed with an electric mixer until blended. Then mix in heavy cream and all the other ingredients (excluding the bread).
  • Cut crusts from white bread slices; cut each slice into 4 squares. Spread the cheese mixture on half of the bread squares; top it with another square of bread to create a mini sandwich. Spread the remaining mixture over the top and sides of the sandwiches.
  • Next, place the sandwiches on a lightly greased baking sheet.Bake at 375°F for 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

  • It is best to grate the cheese off the block instead of buying pre-shredded cheese.
  • You can make these up a day ahead of time and keep them in the refrigerator. Then pop them in the oven when you're ready to serve.
  • You can add any seasoning/spices that you enjoy. They would also be great with white cheddar.
